About

The Readiness Now 2006, Summit for Disaster Management Planning has been designed to provide a timely educational and training experience for regional senior executives from public and private sectors who need to learn and understand the intricacies and challenges of Disaster Management. Spanning regional to global, natural and man-made disaster situations, this Summit features leading experts to address the key issues from four key perspectives: Threats, Planning, Training, and Response.

Understanding the needs for Collective Readiness of our nation's first responders, multitudes of regulatory and governing agencies, businesses and individual stakeholders in critical threat areas is an exceptional challenge.

Our Critical Infrastructure, airports, seaports, railways and highways are safer today - but there is much room for improvement. Recent events have demonstrated that every adverse event has the potential to cascade into a worse situation, and the latest studies have revealed that we are inadequately prepared to deal with a major disaster. Proper preparation, along with timely and well-directed rescue efforts often make the difference between mishap and disaster. Readiness is key.

Major disruptive events -or Critical Incidents- are infrequent, but the potential consequences demand that leaders make certain their enterprise is prepared to ensure Continuity of Operations. Adverse weather and industrial mishaps are better understood, and may be preceded by some warning events. By contrast, earthquakes, tsunamis, woodland fires and terrorist attacks are likely to be surprise, chaotic events. Preparation, planning and extensive authentic training can help us to better recognize the threats and warning signs, gain experience and develop maturity. Targeted training, individual skill testing, intra-disciplinary exercising, force-wide readiness, strategic planning and doctrine development and testing and must be properly implemented. Most significantly, critical incidents invariably threaten stakeholders in adjacent enterprises, often crossing jurisdictional lines. Plans and procedures need to be developed jointly and readiness exercised and validated on a regular basis using the most authentic methods available.

The Readiness Now 2006, Summit for Disaster Management Planning will address, discuss and dissect these critical issues facing our nation and its leadership. We invite attendance by government officials, property managers, insurance underwriters, re-insurance executives, lawyers representing insurance companies, city planners, first responders, Emergency Management Agencies and other disaster management professionals. Please register today to ensure your participation. Space is limited.
